|MONDAY MICHIRU NEWSLETTER -- Spring, 2006|
|12/12/2018 8:33:12 AM - It's been a while since I sat down to write one of these things, but I'm sure you'll understand: Tours, Taxes, and general Spring Fever has kept me from keeping up with keeping YOU up on what's up! Anyhow, I hope everyone's doing well and, for those in the Northern Hemisphere, enjoying the warmer weather.|
COMING UP! -- A few things down the line. First and foremost:
SOBs (NYC) LIVE!!! Coming up on May 1st, again Monday on a Monday (I'm sure they're doing this on purpose...). We are presenting the new band set up that we tried out in Japan to much success, sans Genta (drummer-percussionist from Japan) and WITH a bassist. The band members are as follows:
Henry Hey (keyboards)
Ben Wittman (drums & percussions)
Boris Kozlov (bass)
Alex Sipiagin (trumpet & flugelhorn)
We will be playing many songs from "Routes," as well as songs from the vault never performed in the U.S. before.
Also DJ Kervyn Mark (of Melting Pot) will be spinning before and after us.
Doors open at 8:00. We're on at 9:00.
SOBs (Sons of Brazil)
204 Varick Streret, NYC
JZ BRAT ANNIVERSARY, June 7 & 8 -- It's confirmed: Due to overwhelming love from the people who attended our December performance, we've been asked to come back to JZ Brat in Shibuya (Tokyo) for their anniversary (don't ask me which year they opened). Again, I'll be performing with my steady duet partner, guitarist Naohiko Higuchi.
February/March Tour (Japan and Chicago) -- A HUGE thank you to the people who came out in full force for the various performances we held in Chicago and throughout Japan. I've been bad, VERY bad (LAZY!) in writing my journals and posting pictures (what few I have) of those dates, and I promise they'll be up in the next couple of weeks.
Live DVD at the Liquid Room -- For those who came out to see the performance at the Liquid Room in Ebisu, y'all know what happened that night (many chuckles) and MAN, did we have fun! A few embarrassing moments, but...! So we are in the process now of editting the visuals for the DVD, and I can tell you from having worked on the sonic end that it's sounding pretty good! Due to be released in early July in Japan by Geneon
ROUTES -- The album has been steadily selling, for which I thank those of you who have checked it out and sent such supportive notes. It got released in Japan in February and was #1 at HMV in Shibuya, which these days is considered pretty good, so I'm happy about that, and we're going towards the 2nd pressing. I've also licensed for distribution in Indonesia, so "Routes" will be available to my South east Asian brothers and sisters. Dusty Groove in Chicago also has them available, as well as a couple other shops I distributed to personally in the Chicago area. Keep in mind that here in the States, it is a limited release and I will stop at 3,000 CD copies (in Japan it has of course already sold more than that, but without the benefit of all the extras you get through my ArtistShare experience available at my website); 500 vinyls.
I've got some KILLA remixes that I'm still waiting to see what to do with. I may press them up as limited 12".
Future Performances -- Who knows! But we are talking to people in Indonesia, Japan, Italy, UK, Detroit, Atlanta and DC, so hopefully we'll have more dates in the near future.
Others -- A few collaborations down the line. Next month we'll be seeing Soul Source's new album, in which I sang a cover of the Stevie Wonder song that Sergio Mendes made famous, "The Real Thing," out on the Universal label. There's also a couple songs I'll be doing with underground producers Yellowtail (Brooklyn) and Part Time Heroes (UK), so watch out for them.
"Philosophy Road" has been picked up for a compilation album to be released in the UK and Eire entitled "Underground Soul."
Thanks for checking it out, and until
